Feral cats calling downtown Mobile home
Wild cats have become so prevalent in a section of the Eastern District, Church Street in downtown Mobile as the city of Mobile has displayed a prohibition notice power in the region.
The notice states that any person feeding the cats is in violation of City Ordinance, sections 7 to 41 (requiring rabies vaccination) and 7-48 (dogs or cats unlawfully). Conviction carries with it a fine of $ 198 per animal.
"We have wild cats downtown," said Carol Hunter, director of communications for the Downtown Mobile Alliance.She added that her office has received some calls over the last six years, and were generally called the Azalea City Cat Coalition. "It's not a real pressing issue.
